Did you know that more than 5 million car accidents occurred in 2020 alone? The sad reality is that no matter how safely you drive, you cannot predict what other people will do on the road. That’s why it’s so important to have a vehicle that’s equipped with the latest safety technology. There are several features that every car should have.
Table of Contents
1. Adaptive Cruise Control
You need adaptive cruise control when you buy a new Ford for sale. ACC is a concoction of radar and sensors mounted inside the grille of the car. They lock onto the car in front of you to ensure you maintain a safe following distance. The system automatically speeds up when you need to accelerate and brakes when traffic is slower. It’s an especially important feature if you do a lot of highway driving or are stuck in rush hour traffic. If the system senses a collision may occur, it automatically tightens seatbelts and applies heavy braking.
2. Antilock Brakes
Antilock brakes prevent you from locking up the wheels if you end up with your front tires on a slippery surface. They use sensors on each wheel to ensure each wheel can brake without locking up. This helps you maintain control of the steering wheel, making it easier for you to maneuver and prevent an accident. Keep in mind you may feel a pulsing sensation through the brake pedal. However, there’s no need for concern. This is simply how the system works. Simply push hard on the pedal and allow the ABS to do its job.
3. Backup Cameras
Sometimes referred to as a rearview camera, your backup camera helps you prevent accidents from behind. The camera itself is mounted near the license plate, rear bumper, or trunk latch. You also have a screen inside the car that helps you see what’s behind you. Activated when you’re in reverse, you can back out of your driveway or parking spaces without running into pedestrians or other vehicles. Most backup cameras have parallel guidelines, and newer models also provide bending guidelines, which give you an image of your car’s path when you’re steering.
4. Lane Departure Warning
Your vehicle should have lane departure warning or lane keep safety features. A lane departure warning will buzz your seat or steering wheel if you unintentionally start to drift out of your lane. A similar system is lane keep, which will help you steer back into your lane if you drift. The system switches off if lines are faint or undetected.
5. Electronic Stability Control
Electronic stability control helps your vehicle when it needs more traction. It keeps you on the right path when you’re turning and prevents skidding or sliding. The ESC is linked to a computer and a variety of sensors that detect everything from your steering wheel’s speed to your sideways motion. If you drift outside of your intended path, the system brakes the necessary wheels to reduce engine power and put you back on the right path. It is an especially helpful feature on tall vehicles or top-heavy ones.
Always Ask About Safety Features
When shopping for a new car, always ask the salesman about the safety features available. After all, you want you and your passengers to enjoy your new ride in safety and style.
